A Report on the Assyrian Delegation to Armenia

A high level delegation of Assyrian representatives at home and abroad paid on official visit to the republic of Armenia from the period ( October 28 -- November 6 , 2011) -- The visit was a result of a fruitful coordination and consultation between the Assyrian Genocide International ( Seyfo ) Committee , AISC and Assyrian Federation of Organizations of Armenia "Hayadta." The delegation was received warmly by the authorities concerned .The delegation met the children of the Assyrian community and representatives of their institutions in the Republic of Armenia. The visit covered also Assyrian villages. A series of meetings were held on this occasion. An audience with the prime minister of Armenia Mr. Dikran Sarkisian was held. The meeting covered issues of common interest particularly the issues of massacres of ethnic cleansing committed against the people of Armenia and Assyrian by the Ottoman Empire during the years world war I from 1914- 1918. As a result of this barbaric massacre one million and a half million Armenian and more than 700,000 Assyrian innocents lost their lives .The delegation presented a detailed explanation on the situation of the Assyrian people in Iraq, especially after 2003. The delegation also pointed out that the terrorist operations practiced by the authorities in power in Iraq toward s our people was to force them to imigrate and leave their land. The members of the delegation pointed out the importance of implementation of decisions and international treaties including the issue of recognition of the rights of indigenous people and also the application of decisions of the universal declaration of human rights issued in 1948 . The delegation stressed the importance of the legitimate rights of the Assyrian people to Ashur province in the territory of Assyria within the territorial integrity of Iraq in order to preserve the national and religious identities . The delegation also explained the situation of the Assyrian people in Syria, Turkey and those who live in exile .The delegation called upon Armenian prime minister to establish a center for Assyrian studies in Yerevan to take care the affairs of Assyrian and the mutual issue of common interest between our brotherly people, the people of Armenia and the people of Assyria. The delegation also pointed out the importance that our delegation be represented in the preparatory committee on the occasion of the elapsing of 100 years of the massacre committed against Armenians, Assyrians and the Greeks, which will be held round the world. His Excellency the Armenian prime minister welcomed warmly our delegation and a lot of questions related our Assyrian people were put forward especially Assyrians conditions in Iraq.His Excellency showed a deep understanding and he supported the demands of our delegation. He stressed his support for the just demand, he pledged to continue his support to the welfare of the Assyrian people and to let them live in stability and to enjoy their national right and exercise their religious rituals freely and without any discrimination. The members of the delegation held a series of important meetings with several officials,for instance, the vice chairman of the Armenian parliament Mr. Samuel Nikian , the president of the Armenian delegation to the general assembly of parliamentarians of countries Mr. Maikardeg Minasssian the 28th , Mr. Vahan ED Hovanisean chairman of the parliamentary bloc of Thnag's party , the chairman of the general council of Armina Mr. Manoukian Vazakin ,the chairman of the office of the prime minister as well as the Armenian genocide museum Dr. Hayek Damoyan and Ms. Shushan Saratekeyan at the department of the religious affairs and minorities in the office of the presidency and cultural figures . To summarize our activities with Armenians brothers we mention underneath the most important issues which were raised during our stay and gained acceptance from all parties concerned:

  • Recognition the genocide of the Assyrian massacres by the Ottoman Turkish authorities in the year 1914 --1918.
  • Support the autonomy demand of Assyrians in the Ashur province in Iraq through contacts with countries with influence on the world arena.
  • Establishment of an Assyrian study center in Yerevan to lay stress on the mutual issues of common interest between us -- and also to maintain and safeguard the cultural heritage and the Assyrian language especially towards the Assyrian community in Armenia.
  • Enhancement and close relations between the two peoples and their institutions with common issues and emphasize the role of media in general including the Armenian media to pay due attention and highlight the issues of the Assyrian people .
  • The establishment of an Assyrian monument near the memorial in Yerevan , the Armenian , to commemorate the souls of the martyrs of massacres , genocide , which were carried out by the Ottoman authority in the first world war.
  • Granting Martyrs Memorial a special section in the museum of the Armenian massacres in order to view photos ,books, films ,newspapers and other things as clear evidences to the massacres and in order to inform as much people as possible to the massacres committed against our people.
The Assyrian delegation carried out a number of historical meetings and at a high level and all these meetings were a continuation of historical relations between the brotherly people, Armenian and Assyrian, which extends to thousands of years. An emphasis on strengthening the relationship between the various institutions of the two peoples, initiated by the Party for the Liberation of Assyria and its institutions such as the International Committee for the following up to the massacres of the Assyrian people (Seyfo), and the Institute of Assyria, and to move it forward for the benefit of both peoples .The most work was to achieve the objectives of the visit. So concreted efforts were made by all organizations and institutions of the Assyrian people to reach the proposed objectives .The delegation was composed of the Assyrian organizations and institutions.   • Mrs. Irina Gasparyan Assyrian Federation of Organizations of Armenia "Hayadta"

  • Assyrian Cultural Center, the National Independent in Moscow (Russia)Professor: Yusuf Zaia

Among the most important activities, and visits which we as delegation made were:
  • A visit to our people in the province of the Supreme Devin.
  • A visit to our people in the village of High Artigs.
  • A visit to our people in the province of Dimitrov.
  • A visit to our people in the province of Arzna.
  • Laying a wreath of flowers on the tomb of the martyrs .
  • A tour to the Museum of the Armenian Genocide.
  • A visit to the National Library in Yerevan and in particular Section Assyriology, which opened specially on the occasion of visit of the delegation.
  • A press conference at the Hall of Hotel (Golden Tulip).
