(AINA) -- There are 48 Christian candidates vying for the seats designated for the Christian minority in Iraq's upcoming elections. There originally were 50 candidates, 10 from each party/coalition, but 2 were kicked out by the Iraq High Electoral Commission for allegedly being former Bathists, members of Saddam Hussein's outlawed party.

In addition to the 48, there are three Christians running in Prime Minister Maliki's party.
