Stockholm (AINA) -- A group of Assyrian activists organized a silent protest outside the American embassy in Stockholm on Thursday as the Swedish capital hosted a UN led conference on Iraq.

The activists carried large scale pictures of Assyrians who have suffered from the ongoing ethnic and religious persecution targeting the Assyrian community in Iraq.

The activists declared in a written statement that Assyrians are being targeted by Muslims for being Christians and targeted by ultra-nationalist Kurds for being an indigenous people who can claim large parts of northern Iraq.
