Project to Place Assyrian Dictionary Online
Bookmark and Share

Paris (AINA) -- The Association Assyrophile de France (AAF) has been endeavoring for years to promote the Assyrian language. AAF began a project to place an Assyrian-French-English dictionary on-line. According to Jean-Paul Sliva, the project is well on its way.

"We are appealing to all native Assyrian speakers around the world for volunteer work," says Mr. Sliva, "to 1. to proof read the English and French translations and synonyms 2. to type in new words or 3. both of the above."

At the present rate, Mr. Sliva estimates that an Assyrian dictionary -- totaling about 15,000 words -- will be online within 12 months. With additional volunteers, this time can be shortened considerably and more advanced work undertaken.

The website for the dictionary is www.premiumwanadoo.com/cuneiform.languages/syriac.

AAF is asking for volunteers to aid in completing the dictionary. Volunteers must be read and write Assyrian and English or French.
