Washington -- Secret internal opposition to the Assad regime has furbished RPS with a new information about the Syrian military intelligence headed by Assef Shawkat, which when implemented, will tighten the screws further on the Syrian people freedom of speech and freedom of expression.
Up to 350 new recruits have been dispatched to Germany (Berlin and Bonn), the UK (London), and North Korea for the purpose of learning about the latest techniques in communications interception and technological advancement, especially in the fields of Internet monitoring and email interception. The new recruits are trusted Ba'athist loyalists. RPS sources did not indicate whether the governments of Germany and the UK were helping the trainees willfully.
Branch 206 of the Syrian Military Intelligence is the overseer of these recruits. The branch monitors their training overseas to insure that they are restricted in movement and in contact with any other Syrians.
One area that the Syrian intelligence services always lag behind is in the advancement of Internet technologies. With Syrians under 25 representing 60% of the Syrian population, the Assad regime knows it cannot stop the Internet so it tries to filter it and control it as best it can.
