Mosul (KT-PNA) -- A representative of Yezidian Kurdish students in Mosul, who wished to remain anonymous, claimed that hundreds of Yezidian Kurdish students have been forced to leave the university and colleges in the city over the past few days, after receiving written and verbal threats from terrorist groups.

According to the student representative, several Kurdish lecturers and other university staff are leaving the university and colleges for the same reason. More and more Kurdish students are also leaving the city.

The terrorist threats are centered around the imminent implementation Article 140 of the Iraqi Constitution. It is feared that Izidian Kurdish areas, which now belong to Mosul, would become a part of the Kurdistan region. Students have appealed to the Kurdistan National Assembly (KNA) to help solve the problem by transferring Izidian Kurdish students to universities in Kurdistan.

This would mean relocating a total of 500 students, who are originally from the districts of Senjar, Shekhan and Ba'ashiqe. Maryam Hassan Ibrahim, a member of the KNA, acknowledged the severity of the situation, saying that the students could not be expected to continue their courses in Mosul.

Several Izidian Kurdish students have been allowed to transfer to universities in Kurdistan. Diyan Bir Jaafom, a member of Lalesh Cultural and Social Center, claimed that they had received requests for help >from dozens of Izidian Kurdish students.

Haso Khedir, a student of engineering at Mosul University, said that he had received verbal threats from radical Islamist groups demanding he leave the university. He claimed that many of his friends had also been threatened. Haso will be spending the rest of the academic year at Dohuk University. It is said that Dohuk University has accepted 150 Izidian Kurdish students who have been forced to leave Mosul.
