The Earthquake and the Archaeological Treasures

By Jen Viegas

Iraq is the birthplace of numerous historic firsts. It is where the sailboat, wheel, and seed plow were invented. Lying within the Fertile Crescent, it is where cereal agriculture and commercial record keeping began. Even the concept of zero and 360-degree circles were formulated in what is now Iraq.

Nineveh -- Heart of an Ancient Empire

The National Museum of Antiquities is bringing Nineveh to life for its visitors. Some 2700 years ago, Nineveh was the largest city in the world. The exhibition Nineveh - Heart of an Ancient Empire takes you back to the heyday of the New Assyrian capital in what is now northern Iraq, around 700 BC.

The First Infertility Diagnosis

The first diagnosis to determine infertility was made 4,000 years ago, an ancient Assyrian clay tablet discovered by Turkish researchers in central Kayseri province revealed Thursday.

The Lock and Key: From Assyria to Now

Warfare and Culture in World History

Prof. Lee (Chapel Hill) and a number of other distinguished historians, among them John A. Lynn II and Mark Grimsley, give us nine essays on the ways in which culture and warfare have interrelated across the ages.
